The result of the election of 2021 additional members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) was officially released on 18 November. A total of 149 people were elected, including 65 additional members of the CAS and 84 additional members of the CAE. JLU alumnus Ma Yushan who enrolled in 1987 was elected as a member of the CAE. Mr. Ma now serves as the Party secretary and chairman of Ningxia Wuzhong Instrument Co., Ltd.
Ma Yushan, born in December 1968, is a senior engineer (researcher/professor level) with a doctoral degree. He was successively granted the honorary title of “Qingxia Talent”, elected as the Leading Talent in Scientific and Technological Innovation under China’s “Ten Thousand Talent Program” and National Outstanding Professional, and rewarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award and the second prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. In 2015, Mr. Ma was selected for the National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talent Projectand enjoyed a special allowance from the State Council. On 24 November 2020, he was recognized as a national role model worker.
Ma Yushan studied at the Department of Engineering Machinery of the former Jilin University of Technology between 1987 and 1991. After graduation, he worked at Wuzhong Instrument where he gradually moved to the company’s leadership with his enquiring mind, the spirit of exploration, and relentless efforts for more than 20 years. Mr. Ma guided and led the company staff to focus on the goals of production and operation, introduced high-level talents, and trained skilled craftsmen, building Wuzhong Instrument into a leading enterprise in China’s control valve industry. In 2015, Wuzhong Instrument set China Automation (Wuzhong) Automation Industrial Zone to create a digital platform on all fronts of processing, assembly, logistics, and testing. In the new normal era, Ma Yushan insisted on introducing more than 30 domestic and overseas high-level talents in normal or flexible manners. By engaging foreign experts and developing sophisticated valves, the company broke the bottleneck of domestic technology for producing high-grade, precision and advanced valves applicable to the oil and gas industry and special working conditions. Besides, it produced underwater sluice valves suitable for 1,500 meters under the water and safety shut-off valves regulating the pressure of natural gas, which filled in gaps in the domestic control valve sector. Leveraging the driving role of scientific and technological innovation, he led the company staff to produce products with globally competitive technology, and brought nearly 20 years of progress to the technology level of China’s whole control valve industry.
Ma Yushan has long engaged in product design and theoretical research on control valves. He successively obtained more than 50 inventions and utility model patents, formulated 7 national standards, and published more than 10 papers including 5 high-level ones, as well as 3 monographs. In addition, he independently developed 36 new products including temperature-pressure controllers for the APTS coal chemical industry, 23 of which are national key ones. Multiple national scientific research projects led by him, such as those under the National Science and Technology Support Program, Major National Science and Technology Project, the National 863 Program, won over 10 first, second, and third prizes of the Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Award. To be specific, the project “Independent Innovation and Industrialization of Key Technology for High-level Control Valves” won the second prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
